Shelf talker and shelf tag examples: nine signs
A shelf talker and a shelf tag do the same job: a sign next to a product that tells the shopper what it costs and why now. Stores use both words. What matters is what's on the sign. Below are nine offer tags made in the Flyerworks shelf tag maker, and what each one gets right.
These are example tags made to show the designs, so the prices on them are for illustration and aren't current shelf prices.

What each one does right
- Bikano Kaju Katli, "Deal Storm". A big headline in the top corner, then a price of Rs 299 with the MRP of Rs 349 struck through above it, and a badge that says save 14 percent. The maths holds: 299 against 349 is a 14 percent saving.
- Tata Sampann Mamra Almonds, "Value in every buy". The headline talks about value, not about the discount. The price is Rs 549 in a black flag, the struck MRP is Rs 649, and the badge says save 15 percent.
- Maggi Masala Cuppa Noodles, "Final Hours". This one has a deadline built into the headline, and a deadline makes a small offer feel urgent. Price Rs 45 with the MRP of Rs 52 under it.
- Cookies, "Price Dropped Again". The headline says the price has fallen, and the tag shows it: Rs 99, with Rs 116 struck through. Good for a product that customers already know.
- Tava Gold Basmati Rice, "Deals That Feel Good". A warm headline for a staple you can't shout about. Rs 279 in a speech bubble, Rs 329 struck through, save 15 percent.
- Britannia Tiger Glucose Biscuits, "Discount Too Easy". Rs 25 against Rs 30, save 17 percent. On a low-priced item the percentage reads bigger than the rupees, so the badge does the work.
- Fresh Dates, "Easy Buy Today". A bowl of dates, Rs 189 against Rs 220, in a starburst badge that says save 14 percent. The photo carries the tag.
- Black Grapes, "Deal Storm". The same headline as the kaju katli tag on a different product: Rs 129 against Rs 149. Reusing one design across a category makes a shelf look organised.
- Ela Banana Chips, "Save Fast Grab Fast". Rs 140 in a black price flag, Rs 160 struck through, save 13 percent. The headline tells the shopper to act.
What to copy
- One headline, in big type. It gives the tag its job: a deal, a deadline, a new arrival. Two of these tags use the same headline on different products, and it still works.
- A price bigger than anything else. After the headline, the price is the largest thing on every tag above.
- The MRP, struck through, next to your price. It's the anchor. It also has to match the pack, since you can't sell above MRP.[1]
- A save badge that matches the maths. Work it out as (MRP − price) ÷ MRP before you print. If the number on the tag is wrong, shoppers who check will notice.
- One product per tag. The product name sits at the bottom of every example.
Where Flyerworks fits, and where it doesn't
Every tag above was made in the shelf tag editor: pick a design, add the product, type the price and the MRP, choose a size, download the PNG. The steps are here, and the sizes are here.
Shelf tags need a paid plan: Starter includes 5 a month, and Pro and Business are unlimited. You can try the shelf tag editor free. The editor works best on a computer. It also makes flat printed signs only. If you want a talker that sticks out from the shelf, print the tag and fix it to a card or a clip. The shelf talker and shelf tag maker page covers that.
